I-95 Accident: 19-Year-Old Woman Killed After Being Thrown From Motorcycle and Struck by Semi-Truck on I-95 in Florida

A 19-year-old woman from Orange City died Tuesday night after being thrown from a motorcycle and struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 95 near Ormond Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on October 27, 2026, near mile marker 272 in Volusia County. The woman was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle traveling southbound when she was thrown into the roadway and struck by a tractor-trailer, investigators said.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead. Her identity has not been publicly released in the initial reports.

How the Fatal Motorcycle Crash Happened

According to preliminary findings from Florida Highway Patrol troopers, the motorcycle was a 2026 Kawasaki Z900 traveling in the center lane ahead of a 2023 tractor-trailer.

The motorcycle was being driven by a 23-year-old man from Ormond Beach, with the 19-year-old woman riding behind him as a passenger.

Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling above the posted speed limit when the rider accelerated, causing the passenger to be thrown from the motorcycle. She landed in the center lane and was struck by the left front of the semi-truck.

Troopers reported that the motorcycle and tractor-trailer did not collide directly. The fatal injuries occurred after the passenger was thrown from the motorcycle into the path of the truck.

Drivers Were Not Injured

The motorcycle rider and the 40-year-old man driving the tractor-trailer, who was from Orlando, were not injured in the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Both men remained at the scene following the collision and cooperated with authorities as the investigation began.

Officials have not announced any charges in connection with the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as troopers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Interstate 95 Traffic Disrupted

The collision prompted a traffic disruption on southbound Interstate 95 near mile marker 272. Authorities temporarily restricted traffic while emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene.

The crash occurred along a heavily traveled section of the interstate near Ormond Beach, a coastal city in Volusia County. Fatal collisions on major highways can require extended closures while officials document evidence and clear damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Motorists traveling through the area were advised to follow traffic directions and allow additional time for their journeys while the scene was being managed.

Investigation Continues

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the fatal crash. Authorities have not released the woman’s name or provided further details about her background.

The preliminary findings indicate that the passenger was thrown from the motorcycle after the rider accelerated while traveling above the posted speed limit. Investigators will determine whether additional factors contributed to the collision.

For now, the incident remains a tragic loss of life on Interstate 95. The woman’s death has left unanswered questions for those who knew her, while investigators continue their work to establish the complete sequence of events.

The case remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
